How can I stay safe when meeting someone in person?
Updated 26 September 2026
Meet in a public place, tell someone where you are, keep your own way home, and use Ohrny's tools, such as the Verified badge, in-app calls and reporting, to check the person before you go.
Before you meet
- Look for the Verified badge. It means the person's selfie matched their profile photos.
- Do the mutual reveal. Seeing each other's photos before meeting is normal and expected. Someone who refuses to reveal but pushes to meet is a warning sign.
- Have a voice or video call from inside the app. It takes a minute and confirms that the person is who they say they are. No phone numbers are needed.
- Keep the conversation in Ohrny until you are comfortable. There is no reason to move to another app or share your number before meeting.
- Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when. Share the handle and the plan.
At the meeting
- Choose a public place with people around, such as a café, bar or restaurant. Avoid a first meeting at someone's home or yours.
- Arrange your own transport there and back. Do not rely on the other person for a ride.
- Keep your phone charged and with you.
- Watch your drink, and stay within your limits.
- Leave if something feels off. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
Warning signs
- Refusing to reveal photos or do a call, but pushing hard to meet.
- Asking for money, gift cards or financial help of any kind.
- Pressuring you to switch to another app, share your number or send photos.
- A story that keeps changing.
If you see any of these, stop, block and report. Reports are anonymous.
After the meeting
- Not a fit? Unmatch or block. Blocking is silent.
- Did the person behave badly, lie about who they are or make you feel unsafe? Report them from the chat and attach the messages. Or write to safety@ohrny.com.
- In an emergency, contact local emergency services first.
Good to know
- The Safety Center in the app, under Settings → Safety, collects this advice and the safety tools in one place.
- Intent modes describe what people are looking for. They never mean that anyone has agreed to anything.
- The panic gesture and app disguise protect your privacy on your own phone, for example if someone else picks it up.
