How do I stop my phone contacts from seeing me on Ohrny?

Updated 26 September 2026

With Ohrny Platin you can block your phone contacts so that nobody from your address book sees you on Ohrny and you do not see them; the phone numbers are hashed on your device and never uploaded in the clear.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Block contacts.
  2. Tap Block my contacts.
  3. Allow Ohrny to access your contacts when your phone asks. This is only used for this feature.
  4. Wait a moment while your contacts are processed on your phone.
  5. Done. People whose number is in your contacts are now hidden from you, and you are hidden from them.

You can turn it off again in the same place.

How your privacy is protected

  • The numbers in your address book are hashed on your device. A hash is a one-way fingerprint that cannot be turned back into a phone number.
  • Only these hashes are compared with the hashed numbers of Ohrny accounts. Your actual contact list is not uploaded.
  • Names, emails and other contact details are not used at all.
  • The people you block this way are never told. Nothing shows up on their side.

Good to know

  • The block works in both directions. A blocked contact does not appear in your deck, and you do not appear in theirs, in the Likes You tab or in Intent modes.
  • Someone who signed up with an email address and never added their number cannot be matched by number. Blocking contacts covers accounts that have a phone number on file.
  • Added new contacts to your phone? Turn the setting off and on again under Settings → Privacy → Block contacts to include them.
  • If you have already matched with a contact before turning this on, that match is not removed automatically. Block or unmatch them from the chat if you want to.
  • If your Platin subscription ends, the contact block switches off.
