How do app disguise and the panic gesture work?

Updated 26 September 2026

App disguise changes the Ohrny icon and name on your home screen to a calculator, compass or weather app and keeps notifications neutral; the panic gesture closes and locks the app the moment you shake your phone or swipe with three fingers.

App disguise

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → App disguise.
  2. Choose a look: Calculator, Compass or Weather.
  3. Confirm. The icon and name on your home screen change to the chosen app.

With disguise on, notifications are neutral too. They do not show the Ohrny name, a match's handle or message text. You just see that there is something to check.

To switch back, open the app, go to Settings → Privacy → App disguise and choose Ohrny.

Panic gesture

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Panic gesture.
  2. Choose Shake or Three-finger swipe, or both.
  3. Turn it on.

From then on, the gesture immediately closes Ohrny and locks it. The next time it is opened, it asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your phone passcode before showing anything.

Try it once after turning it on so you know how it feels. Shake the phone firmly, or swipe across the screen with three fingers.

Good to know

  • The disguise only changes how the app looks on your phone. It does not change your profile or how others see you.
  • After the panic gesture, the app is locked behind your phone's own Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. Nobody can open it without that, even if the phone is unlocked.
  • The disguised icon still opens Ohrny when tapped. If someone else picks up your phone, the panic gesture is what protects you, so use the two together: disguise so nobody looks, the gesture for when someone does.
  • Neutral notifications still arrive on time. Only the content is hidden.
  • Notification settings themselves live under Settings → Notifications and in your phone's system settings.
