Privacy policy
Last updated 26 September 2026
This policy explains what Ohrny collects, why, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It applies to the Ohrny app (iOS and Android), the web app and this website. The controller is The One Academy GmbH, Seestrasse 15, 6052 Hergiswil, Switzerland ("Ohrny", "we").
The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell it, we do not show ads, and you can delete everything from inside the app.
What we collect
Account data. Email address, a password hash, your chosen handle, date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or over) and, if you choose, a phone number for sign-in. Your legal name is not required.
Profile data. Photos, prompts, interests, intent, lifestyle answers, height, and the preferences you set for discovery. Photos are stored in their original form and served blurred until a mutual reveal.
Verification. If you verify, a short selfie video is compared with your profile photos. The comparison result (verified / not verified) is stored; the selfie is deleted after the check unless a dispute requires it to be kept for up to 30 days.
Location. Approximate location from your device while you use discovery, so we can show distance and people nearby. With travel mode, the location you pin. We do not keep a history of your movements.
Messages and calls. Messages are stored so they can be delivered and shown on both devices. With disappearing messages on, they are deleted 24 hours after sending. Calls are relayed in real time and never recorded.
Usage data. Which screens you open, likes, passes, matches, reports and blocks, subscription status, device type, app version, language, and crash logs. This is what we use to keep the app working and to detect abuse.
Contacts (optional). If you turn on "Block my contacts", phone numbers from your address book are hashed on your device. Only the hashes leave the phone. We never receive or store readable numbers.
Payments. Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple or Google. We receive a receipt and subscription status, never your card details.
Website. ohrny.com uses first-party analytics only: the page path, referrer, country and city (from the request, not GPS), browser and device class, and time on page. Without your consent this is anonymous and cookie-free: visits on the same day are grouped by a one-way hash of IP address, browser type and a daily changing secret; the IP address is not stored and visits cannot be linked across days. With your consent we additionally use a random session id in a 30-minute cookie, remember which campaign brought you, and may use Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation, USA, as our processor) to record anonymised sessions and heatmaps of how the site is used, with typed text masked; details in the cookie policy. No advertising identifiers and no cross-site tracking.
Why we collect it
- To run the service you asked for: matching, chat, calls, reveals, subscriptions.
- To keep people safe: verification, block and report, abuse detection, age checks.
- To improve the product: aggregated usage statistics, crash reports.
- To meet legal obligations: tax records for purchases, responses to lawful requests.
Under the GDPR the legal bases are performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)), our legitimate interests in safety and product improvement (Art. 6(1)(f)), your consent where we ask for it (Art. 6(1)(a), for example contacts hashing and location), and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)). Processing of special-category data you choose to share in your profile, such as sexual orientation or relationship style, is based on your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)).
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with data brokers.
- We do not show advertising and do not use advertising identifiers or advertising SDKs.
- We do not make your profile visible to search engines or to anyone outside the app.
- We do not read your messages except when you report a chat and ask the safety team to review it, or when required by law.
Who sees your data
Other members see your profile as the app shows it: blurred photos, handle, prompts, intent, and, after a mutual reveal, photos, age and distance for that one match.
We use service providers who process data on our behalf under contract: cloud hosting and storage, push notification delivery (Apple, Google, Firebase), real-time calling infrastructure, subscription management, email delivery, crash reporting, and, only with your consent on the website, Microsoft Clarity for usage analytics. Each provider only receives what its function requires. A current list is available on request at support@ohrny.com.
We disclose data to authorities only when legally required, and we tell you when we are allowed to.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: until you delete your account, then removed within 30 days from live systems and within 90 days from backups.
- Disappearing messages: 24 hours after sending.
- Regular messages: until either person deletes them or the account is deleted.
- Verification selfies: deleted after the check; up to 30 days in disputes.
- Safety records (reports, blocks, bans): up to 3 years after account deletion, so a banned person cannot simply return. Stored separately from the profile.
- Purchase records: as long as tax law requires, typically 10 years.
- Website analytics: 14 months.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export and delete your data. Most of this is inside the app under Settings: edit your profile, download your data, pause or delete your account. Deletion is also available without the app on the page /delete-account.
You can withdraw consent at any time (for example turn off location, contacts hashing or notifications) without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); in the EU/EEA your national data protection authority.
To exercise a right that is not in the app, write to support@ohrny.com from the email address on your account.
International transfers
We are based in Switzerland and host data in the European Union. Where a provider processes data outside Switzerland or the EU/EEA, we rely on adequacy decisions or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the Swiss addendum.
Children
Ohrny is for adults. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account, and we remove accounts we find to belong to minors. If you believe a minor is using Ohrny, contact safety@ohrny.com.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Photos are served through signed, expiring links. Access to production systems is limited to staff who need it and is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Changes
We will announce material changes in the app and update the date at the top of this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
