How do read receipts and Active now work?

Read receipts and the Active now status are a Platin feature that shows when your message was read and when a match is currently in the app; you can turn them off, which also hides the same information about other people from you.

What you see with Platin

• Read receipts: a small mark under your message once the other person has read it.
• Active now: a note in the chat list and in the chat when a match is currently using Ohrny.

Both work only between people who have matched. Nobody outside your matches can see whether you are active.

Steps to turn them off

1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Read receipts and presence.
2. Turn off Read receipts.
3. Turn off Active now.

Each setting works both ways. When you turn off read receipts, your matches no longer see when you have read their messages, and you no longer see when they have read yours. The same applies to Active now. You cannot see other people's status while hiding your own.

Good to know

• On Free and Plus, nobody sees read receipts or your Active now status, and you do not see theirs. Only Platin members can see them, and only for matches who have not turned them off.
• Turning the settings off is instant and nobody is told.
• Read receipts do not tell anyone how long you looked at a message or how often you opened the chat.
• Active now shows only that you are in the app right now. It does not show where you are or what you are doing in the app.
• Disappearing messages and read receipts work together as normal: a message can be marked as read and still disappear after 24 hours.
• Incognito browsing hides you from the deck but does not change read receipts or Active now inside your existing chats. Use the settings above for that.
